..First Impressions are important. TOOTH WHITENING

When we first meet a new person there is a subconscious way that our brains and eyes interact with this person. Normally your eyes scan from their eyes, to their nose and then to their mouth. Only then would the rest of the body follow. Any stained, missing or chipped teeth will be held in memory and will be used to construct that First Impression – If you've lost confidence in your smile, we can help you get it back!

WANT WHITER, BRIGHTER TEETH?

A great option for you might be a professionally administered tooth whitening system. Patients with natural teeth that are discoloured due to age, smoking or other extrinsic staining factors are excellent candidates for tooth whitening. Bleaching does not work as well on teeth that have intrinsic staining, stain from within the tooth.

These stains are embedded deep into the dentin (the layer of the tooth beneath the enamel). Intrinsic stained teeth such as those that were injured or as a result of medication ingested while the teeth were forming such as tetracycline or fluoride will generally not give great results as a result of tooth whitening as those teeth that are not affected by medications, but - the teeth may appear to be brighter - these results will vary from patient to patient. Patients with these deep intrinsic stains can have other cosmetic options such as veneers and crowns to help achieve the desired results.

The best results are with patients whose teeth are yellow, orange, or light musky brown in coloration. Dramatic results are sometimes seen in some patients in just about an hour.

WHAT IS IN-OFFICE WHITENING?

This Professional Teeth Whitening treatment consists of a gentle hydrogen-peroxide whitening gel activated by a special gas plasma "light." Unlike traditional bleaching methods, there's no fuss or mess and no gels or trays to take home. The whole procedure is done in the dental surgery. The light we use is not UV, heat or laser-activated. It is a gentle, blue light that compliments the whitening gel to effectively whiten and brighten your teeth in just about an hour.

WHITER TEETH IN ONE HOUR!

Whiter teeth, in about one hour. It's that simple! Years of yellowing as well as harsh staining from coffee, cigarettes, and red wine are almost magically erased in the time it takes to get a haircut, a manicure or lunch. Clinical studies have proven that this whitening procedure resulted in an average improvement of 8+ shades whiter!

HOW DO WE PROCEED?

  • First you'll have a consultation to answer all your questions and if you are interested in moving forward with the treatment, a thorough examination of your teeth and gums will be done.
  • Once we are satisfied that you are in optimum dental health, we will proceed with your tooth whitening.

1. Your gums and mouth are protected with isolation materials and a "Before" picture is taken.
2. The whitening gel is professionally applied and activated by the light source.
3. After two 20-minute applications, your whitening is completed and your "After" picture is taken. (Full appointment is one and a half hours)
4. The Oral Hygienist will remove the gel and Gum Protector.
5. You rinse. You smile. Wow!

HOW WHITE WILL YOUR TEETH BE?

Clinical studies have proven that this whitening procedure resulted in an average improvement of 3+ shades whiter! Your results of course will vary as your starting point may be different and everyone's teeth respond a little differently, but in virtually all cases, the results are dramatic. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness. During your first consultation for tooth whitening, your dentist will go over what you personally can expect for your individual situation. Severe discoloration can be treated and yield good results in many instances. However, the more difficult cases can sometimes require a more lengthy treatment than the standard one-hour treatment. In the more severe discoloration cases, better results may also be achieved when whitening materials are additionally used at home over a week or so. In these cases the patient will be supplied with a whitening kit to take home.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

The long-term results depend primarily on the individual. Certain habits, such as the use of tobacco products, drinking a lot of coffee, tea, dark soft drinks, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleanings, etc., can work against the results. Under normal circumstances whitening can last 2-3 years. Some people may prefer to do the whitening treatment more frequently. Take-home Whitening Kits can be supplied to top up the whitening treatment if you need to re-whiten your teeth for 7 nights once a year. This will vary from individual to individual.

TAKE HOME WHITENING KITS

An impression is taken of your upper and lower dental arches and custom fitted clear trays are fabricated. These trays will closely conform to your teeth and allow a minimum amount of material to come in contact with your teeth. Your dentist or dental hygienist will provide an overview of the quick and easy procedure and you’re on your way to brightening your Smile! These can be done as stand-alone procedures or be utilized to improve the results of in-house treatments and again these results will vary from patient to patient. Follow-up visits beginning the day after first usage and continuing onto the first and second week and third weeks may be suggested and comparisons and evaluations of your tooth shade will be done at that time.

WILL IT BE UNCOMFORTABLE?

The majority of our patients experience no pain or sensitivity after the whitening treatment. A very small percentage of patients may experience a minor dull "ache" following the procedure.

  • Taking an over-the-counter analgesic like aspirin almost always resolves the feeling. ·
  • In moderate cases, a clear dentist dispensed fluoride rinse my help as well. It is best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity.

IS IT SAFE?

The procedure will not soften enamel or existing fillings. The primary ingredient in the whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide, which has been safely used in teeth whitening for over 100 years and is recognized as an effective whitening ingredient by the dental community. The percentage of hydrogen peroxide used is only 15%, much lower than other whitening gels that often contain 35%-50% hydrogen peroxide . Yotuel also contains Fluoride in every product, wich reminirelise the enamel on teeth.

At-home tray systems: At home tray systems for whitening teeth with carbamide peroxide under the supervision of a dentist has been shown to be safe for teeth and gums. Some patients have experienced increased tooth sensitivity. These symptoms tend to disappear within 1-3 days after stopping the process. Usually after thesensitivity disappears the whitening process can be started again and usually the sensitivity does not return.

In any case, any reaction should be reported immediately to your dentist or hygienist for their special instructions.

  • Over-the-counter quick bleaching kits may cause problems that you may be unaware of such as irritation of the gums and surrounding soft tissue. Over zealous use of over-the-counter home bleaching can wear away tooth enamel, especially due to the fact that these solutions have a very high acid content. We can’t over emphasize that these types of procedures are best controlled at your dentist’s office. Your progress will be monitored carefully which will certainly reduce most secondary effects. Only a dentist can make your teeth their whitest.

THINKING ABOUT HAVING IT DONE?

Whitening should be done prior to the placement of composites, bonding, veneers, and crowns in order to achieve a close match of your new tooth color. If you have tooth-colored filling materials on your front teeth, the fillings will stay the same color – dental restorations do not change color when tooth whitener is applied. New cosmetic procedures such as bonding or crowns should be delayed a minimum of two weeks after the whitening procedure, so that the new tooth shade can stabilize itself.
